To maintain your tankless hot water heater's efficiency, it's recommended to descale it every 6 to 12 months, depending on water hardness and usage. In areas with hard water, descaling every 6 months is advisable, while in softer water regions, once a year may suffice. Regular descaling prevents mineral buildup, ensuring optimal performance and extending the unit's lifespan.
A standard plumbing inspection costs $176.99 and includes, checking for leaks, examining pipes for corrosion or damage, testing water pressure, inspecting fixtures such as sinks, toilets, showers, and ensuring proper drainage. Visual inspection of venting, water lines and drain piping. Based on the inspection, you will receive all replacement and repair recommendations, as well as code violations if any are found.
To assess the condition of the waterlines and drains in your house, start by checking for any visible signs of leaks, rust, or corrosion around pipes and joints. Listen for unusual sounds like banging or gurgling, which can indicate issues. Run water in sinks and tubs to see if it drains quickly; slow drainage may suggest clogs or blockages. Additionally, monitor water pressure; low pressure could mean obstructions or leaks. Hiring a professional plumber for a thorough inspection is a good idea for a comprehensive evaluation. A smelly washroom is inconvenient and embarrassing, but did you know that it can also be dangerous? If your washroom smells like a sewer, no matter how much you clean it, you might actually be smelling the sewer. Here are some common causes of sewer, gas entering your home .
1. Do you have an unused fixture in your washroom? Maybe a shower that only gets run every six months or so or a sink that you never use. If so, the trap might be dry causing sewer gas to enter your home to fix this simply pour water into the trap every two weeks or so.
2. Do you have a floor drain in your bathroom? If so, shine a light down it to see if there is water at the bottom. If not, it could be the same problem. Most floor drains have a primer that adds water to the trap. Every time you use a fixture. If there is an issue with this primer line, you might not have water in the trap.
Improper venting. If your washroom is located in the basement, it may have been added after the fact. This can often mean that it was not finished by a plumber and was not inspected. Venting issues can include, faulty, air, admittance valve “cheater valve”, open ended vent, or even no vent at all. All of these can also cause a trap to become dry and let sewer gas in.
3. Improper Tolet seal. If the seal from your toilet to the floor flange has a gap, it will leak gas. Check for signs of this by ensuring your toilet doesn't wobble, and there is no water on the floor around the toilet.
Mould in your walls. Although bathrooms are designed in such a way to keep mould from going into your walls and framing of your house, sometimes it finds its way through and can cause mould or rot. Mould cannot only be dangerous for your respiratory health, but it will also compromise the structural integrity of your home.

If your toilet is steadily running and won't stop, Check inside the back of the toilet to see if there is something stuck. If the chain gets stuck on something, or debris falls into the flapper space, it may keep running. If you can't see anything that is obvious, your toilet may need a new flapper or ballcock assembly.
Turn off the valve that feeds the toilet with water to stop the water from running while you contact a plumber, or problem solve further.
